This is me, on the outskirts of my hometown in the Valencian Community in eastern Spain, January 2023, shortly after having moved there. It's the fourth and probably final European country for me to live in. Raised at a border area, roughly 1,900 km up north, I'm very interested in regional cultures and languages, and I investigate how they're threatened by political power and the propaganda that serves their nationalist agenda. Having a certain emotional distance to nation states, since they don't really define my identity, I feel free to look critically not only at foreign states, but also at the country that taught me its history lessons and that offered me its television channels and newspapers. I'm fascinated, by how people are able to see the abuse of power and manipulation by certain foreign leaders, while at home they're voting for similar leaders and parties, that "serve the national interest".
However, it's not just politics and nationalism that show us how power works. The dynamics are well noticeable on our work floors too, especially in the corporate culture. Over eight years of working in IT as a software developer as a typical canary in the coal mine, gave me the opportunity to analyze its toxicity. It's been this experience that has enabled me to recognize the false narratives spread widely, which purpose is to defend the system against possible attacks by the powerless majority.
The root to all the suffering, caused by people and their behavior towards others, we may find in trauma. Recognizing and acknowledging our own traumas is key to a more peaceful society, joy, and mental health. That's what I write about. Spreading awareness is my main goal.
